I read the book Cognitive Surplus
1.
The book had a general theme involving the amount
of time that many people can spend freely. It argued that a cognitive surplus
was coming about, which involves the amount of time we can use to search for
and learn things on our own. This is a global resource that impacts almost
everyone.
2.
The book was definitely all about a sense of
connection and networking, using your modern resources to get ahead. Getting ahead
is a huge part of entrepreneurship, and the book really connected well with
that theme.
3.
An exercise I would like to make could go as
follows. One section of the book discussed means and the impact of media on
civilians, companies, and governments. I would like to see how different people
react to different sites when the sites look more or less malicious and
shoddily constructed, to see if that deters people from accessing. This could
put into conflict his idea of the cognitive surplus.
4.
When reading the book, it discussed cognitive
surplus. I had never heard of this or considered it, but all of a sudden
everything made sense. This generation is much different than the last, and
thanks to the internet, much more willing to learn about anything. This is
definitely an upside to the future of entrepreneurship and thinking as a whole.
Hi Danny,
ReplyDeleteI find this concept very interesting. I also have been thinking that society could greatly improve if we stopped doing repetitive tasks that are not intellectually stimulating. If people spent less time doing things that robots could do, they could spend more time thinking about the big picture and contribute to human understanding and culture in a much greater way. If the world is heading in that direction, then I believe that people will generally become more and more informed about the world around them.
Hello Danny, first I want to say that I find the theme of the book you read very interesting and I would probably start reading it myself. The idea of robots doing people’s work so people will be able to think of the bigger picture is very controversial and profound. I believe that humans desire to create such a world and am very intrigued of the outcome.
ReplyDeleteHey Danny! I can definitely agree that networking is a huge reason anyone gets ahead- it's who you know, not what you know. You can be qualified and an absolute genius with an award winning idea- but if you don't know the right people to make investments or help propel your idea to success, it'll just sit in your mind and won't go anywhere. My theater teacher used to always say it's who you know and not what you know in any business, and I can definitely say from my experiences that it's true. Great post!
